DESIGN NAME: OhL
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sub-woofer lamp
INSPIRATION: The main inspiration came because the 70% of the buy decisions come from the women in the house, so I had to design a sub-woofer with strong performance (normally a sub-woofer with this performance are bulky, big, and a black box) but aesthetically to be approved by women.
Through the research with Tutondo and its acoustics engineers we found the pipe organ principal the one that fitted our goal. So I designed a sub-woofer that didn't look like and was useful to be a lamp for home theaters.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The OhL is a unique object for its contemporary through time design and sound quality. After an extensive research in sound development OhL is the result of the by the pipe organ principals, this product it is able to reproduce even the lowest and deepest notes. The OhL is a unique object for its design and sound quality, an extract of harmonic aesthetics and excellent acoustics that improve the state of the art subwoofers, by offering Sound and Light, its a strong alternative to bulky ugly, big subwoofers. Notes that cannot be reached by non-electric instruments; it was conceived to function in Home Cinema audio systems that associate high performance and the best design effect.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The use of the subwoofer its a common device that its controlled by the ammplifier, it has to be connected through the aux - sub and calibrated according the speakers, the calibration its handy in the front of the subwoofer.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2010 in Italy in the company Tutondo it took many years to complete and improve due to the technical difficulties and production implementation.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Following the tendencies of today, the spaces, exclusive architectural of all the best furniture environments, need the introduction of logic, essential objects of design and of high quality.
The light is perceived inside the environment as a natural element, it is well recognized by the eyes and the mind.
So why not integrate the light emissions with a deep and wrapping sound?
Acrylic tube with acoustic absorbent foam, in a steel base.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research began from the understanding of the consumer needs,
I spent long time with the distribution network understanding the way the products are sold and the costumer behaviour. This lead me to create a research based in observation and questionnaires where I got my own conclusions. I realized that the consumer which take the buy decision was the women of the house and the performance of the product was very important for the man.
From there I try many shapes and solutions in order to make a bulky subwoofer aesthetic and pleasant to have it at home.
Through cooperative work with the acoustic technicians we develop the shapes where the pipe organ had better performance........
and it took time to reach what you see, many changes where made from the first concept due to technical problems in the manufacturing process.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part in this project was the implementation to the manufacturing process
