| DESIGN NAME: Collectote PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Bag INSPIRATION: The inspiration for Collectote came from hobbyists who needed a way to carry and display their collections during trade shows and events, while keeping essentials accessible and clutter to a minimum. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Collectote is a 3-in-1 bag that gives you more flexibility and allows you to organize everything easily for traveling, museum visits, and classes, work and trade shows. You can separate your large messenger bag, while carrying your essentials in a smaller bag. It serves in many diverse situations, fulfilling the needs of all kinds of people, from artists to executives. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When you think your bag is too heavy to carry around during museum visits, Collectote allows you to detach the stylish small bags which has all your essentials with zipper and leave the heavy messenger bag behind. Let freedom from clutter begin. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2012 and finished in May 2013 in New York , and was exhibited in Parsons Product Design Senior thesis exhibition in May 2013. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The 3 in 1 bag, Collectote, are made out of heavy nylon canvas .The big messenger bag and two smaller bags are connected with M4 Metal zippers and a leather flap closure. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Large Messenger bag: 30.5x39x11.5cm or 12x15.5x4.5 in (height x width x depth). Small tote bag: 23x29x5cm or 9x11.5x2 in. Total measurements (with handle in higher position): 56x39x21cm or 22x15.5x8.5in. TAGS: fahion, bag,multifunction , women, accessoires RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To find out what makes a dream bag for collectors, I joined collection club and went to a few club meeting and 2013 ASDA spring stamp show in New Yorker hotel. I realize collectors prefer using two shoulder straps bags or two separated tote bags, one for collection items only such as letter-size albums and stamp reference book (dictionary) and magnifier, another for personal belonging such as laptop, wallet and overnight items (for traveler). As a result, their both hands and shoulders are full of stuff. Although they can check in big heavy stuff, they still have problem carrying all the small but important items in hands . I look for a bag design that offers people more flexibility and convenience. CHALLENGE: I realized that the biggest problem was communication with manufacture .It took a lot of time to make sure manufacture fully understand the detachable part as well as complicated bag details .
