DESIGN NAME: Circus
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Glass Sculpture Series
INSPIRATION: Inspired by the disorder and unpredictability of modern urban life, Circus references circus performers to critique social chaos with dark humor. Motivated by a desire to merge satire and artistry, the series employs advanced hot glass blowing techniques and color theory exploration to achieve visually striking, sculptural forms.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Circus is a contemporary glass art series created using hot glass blowing and shaping techniques. Inspired by circus performers, the sculptures reflect the chaos and unpredictability of urban life through bold, mismatched colors and dynamic forms. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, emphasizing craftsmanship and artistic expression. The use of exaggerated shapes and vibrant contrasts sets this series apart, offering a critical yet playful commentary on modern cityscapes.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This sculpture is designed for passive observation, without the need for direct interaction. Its appearance subtly changes with the ambient light and viewer's perspective, revealing different textures and vibrant hues. Key moments occur when light and shadow interplay to highlight its form, creating an engaging experience that captures the dynamic energy of urban life
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project commenced in 2024 in Istanbul. It is regularly featured in local art exhibitions and cultural events, reflecting its evolving creative vision and the dynamic spirit of contemporary urban art.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Utilizing advanced hot glass blowing and shaping techniques, Circus was crafted from high-grade soda-lime glass. Thermal annealing was applied for form stabilization, while precision color segmentation accentuated contrasting hues. The design process began with detailed 2D sketches on an iPad using Sketchbook, guiding the iterative creation of asymmetrical, dynamic forms inspired by circus performers.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: (Left to Right) Product dimensions:
1. 300 mm (W) x 250 mm (D) x 750 mm (H)
2. 350 mm (W) x 230 mm (D) x 280 mm(H),
3. 420 mm (W) x 250 mm (D) x 300mm (H) Fabricated using advanced hot glass sculpture techniques, the ball and legs are attached via a hot bonding process to ensure robust integration. Each piece's legs were meticulously produced with high precision for optimal balance and stability. The design process began with detailed 2D sketches on an iPad using Sketchbook, guiding the creation of dynamic, asymmetrical forms.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This research explores the intersection of satire, social critique, and glass artistry. The objective was to reflect urban chaos through circus-inspired sculptural forms using advanced hot glass blowing techniques. A practice-based methodology combined material experimentation with color theory analysis. Data was collected through iterative prototyping and audience feedback. The findings revealed how form and color evoke emotions, offering insights into visual storytelling. This research contributes to contemporary art and design by fostering deeper engagement with societal themes.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge was translating the unpredictability of urban chaos into controlled glass forms while maintaining artistic intent. Hot glass blowing requires precision, yet the concept demanded organic, dynamic shapes. Socially, balancing dark humor with meaningful critique posed a challenge. Limited access to specialized pigments and shaping tools added complexity. Overcoming these obstacles led to a fusion of satire and craftsmanship, pushing the boundaries of narrative-driven glass art.
