| DESIGN NAME: Base PRIMARY FUNCTION: Drinking Glass INSPIRATION: The design of Base is looking at the basic function of a drinking glass and the contrast between its two states of being - empty and full. Delicate and light at the top and solid at the base with a lot of depth. The transparent material setting the stage for a great experience. So, is the glass half empty or half full? UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The products of this product series can be described as elegant drinking glasses with a super delicate top and a chunky and extra stable base. They are made from borosilicate glass. There are three different sizes. 200 ml 330 ml and 500 ml. The essential design is based on a modular approach and is specifically designed to be stackable. It is all about the base. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Take a glass. Fill it up. Bring it to your mouth. Drink. Enjoy! PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was designed in Italy during the summer of 2024 as a quick side study for Officina Endorfino. An exploration and exercise in glassware design. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Base glassware series is made from borosilicate glass. The material is known for its strength, durability and temperature resistance. The glass can be moulded and crafted in a variety of very different shapes and thicknesses. It is an infinitely recyclable material that can be re-melted again and again minimizing waste and environmental impact. The packaging is made from recycled cardboard. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Base 20: Content 200ml, Diameter 74mm, Height 90mm Base 33: Content 330ml, Diameter 74mm, Height 130mm Base 50: Content 500ml, Diameter 74mm, Height 170mm TAGS: tableware, drinkware, glassware, drinking glass, tumbler, stackable, glass, borosilicate, Officina Endorfino RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design process was based on conceptual and formal research aimed at understanding material properties and opportunities of the category. Product development and refinement through traditional sketching and 3D modelling. CHALLENGE: The main challenge was the necessity to create a series of modular and stackable drinking glasses in different sizes that also explore the formal possibilities of the material and make a visual statement.
