| DESIGN NAME: Kalerm Model Z PRIMARY FUNCTION: Full Automatic Coffee Machine INSPIRATION: The inspiration behind this groundbreaking coffee machine was a bold vision: to break away from the conventional "boxy" designs that dominate the market and create something truly unconventional, dynamic, and futuristic. Traditional coffee machines often follow a rigid, rectangular form, prioritizing function over visual impact. We challenged this norm by thinking outside the box. Our goal was to craft a machine that is both a high-performance appliance but also an innovative statement piece. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This cutting-edge fully automatic coffee machine redefines modern coffee brewing with a bold, unconventional design that breaks away from traditional aesthetics. Its sleek, angular structure, combined with premium metallic finishes and dynamic LED accents, gives it a futuristic, high-tech appeal, making it a statement piece in any environment. Its unconventional, modern mesthetics, makes it unique and recognizable, setting a new standard in coffee machine appearence. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: easy to use with a big colorfull and complete touch screen, the user need to place his cup and press the kind of coffee he likes to have. Operator will provide to refill the beans and coffee powder in the hoppers. Water is provided by direct connection to water service and used coffee cakes are collected in a huge container inside the machine that will be cleaned up by operator. This machine is studied for convenient stores and hotels where an operator can prepare the coffee for you, where steam or hot water are needed. The coffee spout is self adapting to the high of the cup you will use. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: the project was developed by a team of designers and engineers between Italy and China and took around 1 year between July 2023 and June 2024 and was discosed to public during the Shanghai Hotelex exhibition in 2024 FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Home Appliances Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Injection molding for ABS and other plastic parts. Some parts are metal injected parts to give structure to the body and communicate strongness outlook. Touch display full color led. Some led decoration over the body with light guide cover to spread the light omogenously. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 676 x 370 x 786 h mm TAGS: coffee, machine, automatic, cappuccino, modern, outstanding, full automatic, horeca, steam, touch display, full automatic, coffee machine RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The machine was developed basing on an engineering mock up that was analyzed adn modified basing on the user experience research results. The team of designers and engineers worked together to adapt the outlook design and the user experience to the technichal needs and viceversa. The test revealed some issues that drove us to a review of the design and some details for the best performance and usability. CHALLENGE: Matching the view of a innovative outlook with the mechanical needs and the cost budget was a real challenge and finding solutions that balance all the aspects involved was really hard.
