| DESIGN NAME: Brilliance PRIMARY FUNCTION: Public Artwork INSPIRATION: Inspired by the blue waves and golden light of the Pearl River, this artwork integrates Lingnan copper art techniques with the artist's “Yeshan Fish” carvings for conceptual and process innovation. The golden edges enhance the smooth lines of the fish, while their transparent jasper color conveys honor and elegance, reflecting Lingnan culture’s connection to nature and harmony. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: “Brilliance” combines Lingnan culture and intangible cultural heritage copper art. The eight copper fish in the center of the work are swimming in the pool, shining golden light, and the fish bodies exude a distinguished temperament like jade, implying the prosperity and rich of ONE PENGRUI.During the creative process, we specially invited Chen Huanzhi, a representative artist of Lingnan Copper Culture, and Chen Xin, a Xinrui automobile designer to participate to form cross-border cooperation. This cooperation demonstrating the project characteristics of “leisure and harmony”, and conveying Guangzhou's leisurely and calm attitude towards life. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In “Brilliance,” we focus on enhancing the leisurely atmosphere in the guest courtyard by exploring the interaction between the artwork and the space. To address challenges like the oppressive feel from mirror columns and blocked light, we arranged the fish carvings to create visual lines that evoke a sense of “endless light.” These dynamic lines bring vitality and guide viewers through the courtyard, alleviating spatial limitations and encouraging relaxation. This design reflecting Guangzhou's cultural richness while elevating the artistic ambiance of the space. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The work would be installed and placed at ONE PENGRUI, Guangzhou, China in 2024 and would be exhibited in public continuously. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To enhance the sculpture's three-dimensionality SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 2600mm x depth 766mm x height 358mm TAGS: Public art, sculpture, metal sculpture, abstract art, urban space, art installation RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Inspired by the sparkling and golden natural beauty of the Pearl River in Guangzhou, “Brilliance” cleverly integrates the rich traditional cultural essence of Lingnan with modern design concepts. Through the innovative combination of exquisite copper casting skills and modern hot coloring technology, eight copper fish have been vividly shaped. They swim leisurely in the water, the golden light shines and the jasper texture complement each other, symbolizing the prosperity and perfect vision of ONE PENGRUI Project. CHALLENGE: In the design phase, we faced the challenge of blending traditional Lingnan copper art with modern design concepts to honor tradition while appealing to contemporary tastes. To solve this, we collaborated with Lingnan copper artist Chen Huanzhi and automotive designer Chen Xin. During production, handling and welding copper presented difficulties. We treated the inner skeleton for corrosion resistance and forged pure copper plates to minimize weld marks, ensuring durability and artistic integrity. Through continuous optimization, we balanced artistry with functionality.
