PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Lightweight Silm Sustainable

INSPIRATION:
Seat Lite aircraft seat combines function, ergonomics, and aesthetics through creative and sustainable design and economic friendly materials, Slim and soft organic styling is SeatLite's design language. Create a more comfortable user experience while avoiding injury for passengers caused by sharp parts beyond the surface. The styling of the seatback is light and thin with ergonomic design shapes that provide better comfort and privacy.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Seat Lite's vision is to improve the flight experience while being lower cost for airlines. Comparing with the existing seats on the market, the Seat-Lite offers an adaptable PED,Personal Electronic Device,holder with an optimized viewing angle and provides more pockets for personal carry-on items. Integrating the safety card with the tray table, Seat-lite benefits passengers in reaching the instructions more naturally in a paperless way

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The adaptable PED holder is a three-stage design that will meet the user needs of most PEDs sizes. We ensure the stability of the PED holder during flight with support from the upper and lower sides. Added functional parts around the PED holder, such as the Type-C charging port and mesh pocket, give the passengers' the best experience while using electronic devices. Additional storage is under the seat, which meets the needs for carry-on handbags. The ergonomic seatback provides greater comfort with a slim-shaped styling. The U-shaped headrest gives more privacy and vertical movement provides more comfortable neck support.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in October 2021 in Beijing and finished in August 2022 in Beijing, and was exhibited in National Craftsman Innovation Exchange Conference in July 2023 in Beijing, China and iF Design Award 2023 in Berlin, German.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Seats are the product that accompanies passengers for the longest on a flight journey. The biggest challenge of the aircraft seat design is providing a comfortable experience in a limited weight and space. Airlines currently have economy-class seats on their flights, and most of them choose standard seats from manufacturers. Customization of the seat could not fully match the actual needs of all passengers. Pain points such as insufficient storage space for carry-on items, regular headrests not fully supporting the side of the head, and interference between adjacent passenger arms.

CHALLENGE:
The challenge of this design is to choose the one that match the requirements of usability, engineering structure and airworthiness. We list passenger carry-on items and on-board products, such as magazines, water bottles, handbags, glasses, etc. According to the actual size, we arranged them in the three views of the economy class seats ,combined with the mechanical structure of the seat, to ensure that the use and storage area do not interfere with the existing structure, affecting the realization of the scheme.
