| DESIGN NAME: Black Is Black PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House INSPIRATION: The concept of the project was to preserve the austere and simple form of buildings which allowed us to achieve modern and timeless character of place and architecture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The House in Silesia was built in the area where catalogue houses rule. Our aim was to stand out from the crowd but to make reference to local tradition and region. Three simple ridge roofed buildings shaped like traditional houses were functionally divided into garage, art studio and home building. The house opens onto a garden that penetrates its interior thanks to large glazing. Contrasting colors and nature complement the pure form of the building complex. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The main conditions for this project were the functional arrangement, plot’s exposure to sunlight and topography. The wide driveway and the garage are in public wide-open area. Home building was situated simultaneously to garage and art studio, enabling comfortable crossing to the private space. That is why between the buildings we’ve got the walking route leading us to the private space, revealing at the same time interesting architecture perspectives and surrounding landscape view PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started 2014 - Finished 2023 FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Architecture, Building and Structure Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Wood SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Total plot area: 4500.00 m2 Built-up area: 300.00 m2 Biologically active area: 4200.00 m2 Surfaces: Usable area: 260.00 m2 Built-up area: 300.00 m2 Volume: 1,800 m3 Building height: 8.00m Type of roof: gable roof Demand for installations: Heat pump - use of renewable energy to heat the house Rainwater recovery - garden irrigation + green roof Photovoltaics - the use of solar energy as a source of electricity Green roof - rainwater collection, air purification, lowering the ambient temperature Ventilation and recuperation system TAGS: Black house, country house, slow life, good design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Big rocks dug out during the construction works became the initial point for arranging the green space. The stones of different fractions surround the buildings- it’s characteristic of Jura region.There is clear division of space in each building. Home building represents the living space- open for daily use and private one- consisting of residents’ bedrooms. In the art studio we’ve got the mezzanine arranged for guests with a garden view. From the very beginning of our architectural adventure we are accompanied by the idea of shaping the space and influencing the perception of surroundings. Many years of practice and a decade under the name of Gornik Architects strengthened our belief that we design to break stereotypes, preserving local character and respecting the values that has survived for generations. We place our realizations in the context of the region, stepping outside the frames of predictability, adding projects their individual style, leaving the space for form and interiors evolution. We believe, houses just like their owners have to transform, because it is the feature of life. Designing, we encounter barriers and have to find innovating solutions or compromise. As designers we strive to achieve simplicity, carefully choosing tools and ways of reaching the goals. |
