| DESIGN NAME: Arena Shumen PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Sports Hall INSPIRATION: The intended vision of Arena Shumen is an organic, iconic, memorable image that will become one of the symbols of the city. A basic principle in shaping is the economically feasible expression of interior spaces into exterior volumes. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Arena Shumen is an implementation of a complex, functional flexibility in a recognisable, architectural shape. The site is excellently connected to the urban structure and is intended to be a part of a new, vital, secondary urban center with an area of 55 decares, with a hotel complex, residential buildings, retail outlets, open-air children's and sports playgrounds etc. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Right after the opening, Arena Shumen turn out to be one of the most interesting and vital building in the city of Shumen. Community use it not only for sports, but for variety of social activities and exhibitions. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The building has a monolithic, beam reinforced concrete construction, on which steps on a steel roof. The curved facade walls, brought out in front of the contour of the slabs, are solved with metal construction attached to the reinforced concrete structure of the building. The roof structure is made of steel with max support distance 45.50 m. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Total area (m2): 5600m2 Site area (m2): 55 600m2 TAGS: Multifuntional sports hall, Arena Shumen RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The concept design went through analysis of variety of factors - international sports federations standards, local teams, terrain condiotions, budget etc. The main goal was to satisfy all the regulations in a magnificant architectural form. A large team of more than 30 designers, engineers and artists participated in the process. CHALLENGE: It was a challenge to create a modern multifuntional building on such a place - full of historical layers and social commitment.
