DESIGN NAME: Cool Line
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Liquor Bottles
INSPIRATION: When you pick up the pencil, in 2D space, any virtual 3D form can be outlined with 2D lines. However, in 3D space, lines can have their own 3D forms, which can be changed and can be combined into a new 3D object. So I try to combine two thick lines together and add a joint to change the line direction at the bottom to form a 3D shape of a liquor bottle.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This design subverts the shape of normal liquor bottles, and also accurately conveys that the function is served by the form. A complete unit consists of a pair of linear tubes, each can actually hold 2 kinds of liquor, the main upper part & the C-shaped base part. So a pair of tubes can hold 4 different base liquor, with distinctive bottle colors to distinguish the flavors. The shape can be rotated and folded at the joints, It can be reassembled into a new 3D form, which can be more interesting
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By unscrewing the top bottle cap, the user can directly pour out the liquor from the main tube. The C-shaped base part can be directly pull out from the joint when it is positioned at 90 degrees, and then unscrewed the small bottle cap to pour out the liquor of the C-shaped part.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was started in Zhengzhou in February 2022 and completed in January 2023.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research direction of this project is to design a new style and interactive product that young people like. We searched all the liquor bottles on the existing market and try to find a solution in a new way. The lines in the 2D space are transformed into 3D space through the joint, which can be more interesting. We have done a lot of experiments with 3D printing, and finally tested out the correct joint and determined the thickness of the linear tubes and the capacity of the bottle.
CHALLENGE: The idea of this bottle shape is a challenge, it makes a breakthrough in the traditional form of the liquor bottle. In order to make this bottle hold more kinds of base liquor, a joint is needed. The most difficult part of this design is the joint, which can ensure that the upper part of the main tube can rotate freely. With the spring screw for positioning, iIt can also ensure that the bottom can do 4 continuous 90 degree positioning rotation (360 degree rotation). In addition, counterweight at the bottom and overall balance are also difficult.
