| DESIGN NAME: Bla Bla Serif PRIMARY FUNCTION: Typeface Specimen INSPIRATION: The inspiration for the typeface is in brutalist forms. Taking that inspiration from the ideas of architectural forms and developing it into a serif typeface, using forms and a mathematical grid. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Bla Bla is a contemporary serif typeface inspired by brutalist forms, featuring large open counters, and curved, round forms, creating a modern & elegant glyph set. The organic curves with gentle repetitions create powerful and harmonious forms. Designed to be a stylish modern family it is perfect for communication and branding projects. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The typeface was developed in 2022 FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The typeface was first hand drawn and developed in Glyphs. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The typeface is available in TTF, OTf and WOFF formats and printed on newsprint in CMYK TAGS: Font design, Branding, Identity, Type design, Type Specimen RESEARCH ABSTRACT: One of the hardest parts of the design was translating architecture into a serif typeface. Through the study of sections and observations of light and shadow upon building structures we were able to identify forms that developed the shapes of the serif. CHALLENGE: The challenge was to develop something completely new ad brutalism is more synonymous with sans fonts, so developing a new language and approach to a stylist serif typeface.
