| DESIGN NAME: Helios Airport Brewery PRIMARY FUNCTION: Amusement Pub INSPIRATION: Lab Beyond The Blue Wall An experimental factory behind the blue wall. This project is based on the theme of a "Factory Lab" (beer factory), and through the combination of various materials, Conception aimed to create a space unique to Helios Naha airport Brewery, the first place in the world where you can drink freshly brewed beer at an airport. The base motif is blue, the color that is most pleasing to the eye and naturally draws you in, even from a distance. It's from Okinawa's sea and sky. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project aimed to create a space unique to the first place in the world where you can drink freshly brewed beer at an airport. With a base color of helios blue, it has a modern atmosphere like a "laboratory of the near future. The use of wood grain materials in various areas creates a calm and natural space. In addition, to create a live atmosphere, conscious of the layout so that visitors can drink freshly brewed beer while feeling the brewing machines working right in front of them. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The continuous distiller, the machine used to make beer, consists of two parts: a moromi tower and a rectifying tower, with dozens of shelves in the tower. Moromi is fed from the top of the moromi tower, and steam is simultaneously fed from the bottom to the top. The steam removes the volatile components from the heated moromi, which are then cooled and returned to the distillate. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project planning was started Okinawa in April 2022, finished construction in Nov 2022, and opened in Naha Okinawa in Dec 2022. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Visibility from the lower floors had to be cleared. We therefore applied titanium quenching style art paint to the facade, using steel plates as a base from one end of the store to the other. The bright titanium color (Helios blue) stands out well against the existing white-based wall surface. In addition, by using steel plates as the base material, a metallic texture with just the right amount of luster was achieved. The result is a memorable facade that catches the eye from the lower floors. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The barrel sculpture in the center of the back bar is made from actual barrels used at Helios Brewery. Barrel sculpture size: wide 930mm, height 1300mm The showcase surrounding the barel size: wide 1540mm, height 1300mm The showcase surrounding the barrels is filled with hop artifacts. The surface of the showcase is decorated with stained glass artwork. The result is an impressive object that is dynamic, playful, and delicate. CHALLENGE: Helios Brewery is located at Airport. Airport regulations had to be cleared. Cleared them one by one, including weight restrictions and disaster prevention facilities. We were not able to create a 3D decoration by regulations. It was necessary to make it flat. Conception applied titanium art paint to the facade with a steel plate base. The bright titanium color stands out well against the existing white base wall. It gives the building a metallic feel with just the right amount of luster. NAME: Helios Distillery Co., Ltd. PROFILE: Helios want to make locally produced sake from Okinawa's local crops. In 1961, under the philosophy of our founder Tadashi Matsuda, our company was founded with the production of "rum," a distilled spirit made from Okinawa sugarcane. Since then, as we have continued to grow into a comprehensive alcoholic beverage manufacturer with six different production licenses, we have pursued our dream of establishing all production systems, including the cultivation of raw materials, here in Okinawa, and have gradually realized this dream. As Helios approach the 60th anniversary of our founding, we have returned to our roots and renewed our determination to work with like-minded local people to create not only delicious sake, but also genuine sake that will be sustainable for a hundred years to come. Through such sake brewing, we will continue to take on the challenge of offering new sake encounters to as many customers as possible under the motto, "Sake Entertainer that brings a smile to customers face when they drink it. |
