DESIGN NAME: BLS World
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Trade Center
INSPIRATION: BLS World Trade Center is a large mixed-use complex intended to offer unparalleled workspace and luxury hotel in Eastern China, and to stimulate the growth and vitality through redefining Haining's city skyline. The tower building soars upwards into the sky, showing the beauty of strength. The neat curtain walls are rhythmic and dynamic, and the iconic tower crown shaped by the upward-stretching building form echoes the city's rapid economic growth.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Based on a strategy of balancing economy with urban context, art, technology and nature are incorporated into the 268m-high tower, hence generating a series of novel, fun spaces. The architects deepened the design to enhance flexibility, variability and fusion between spaces, and resorted to parametric design approaches to ensure the compatibility between the high-cost, long-lifespan spaces and constant technological development, so as to open a new chapter for CBD-based landmark architecture.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project comprises a tower and several podiums. The 51-floor tower mainly accommodates offices and a five-star hotel. The hotel is set on the higher levels, featuring a "SKy Lobby" and a "Sky Observatory" set at a height of 222.8 meters, which offers 360-degree aerial views of the cityscape. The podiums include commercial facilities, a conference center and a media center. The whole complex is a mixed-use cultural & business center that integrates ecology, industry, tourism and leisure.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: PROJECT DURATION: 2019.12-2023.12
Location: Southeast of the intersection of Haizhou East Road and Zonghai Road, Haining, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, China
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Architecture, Building and Structure Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The tower adopts an all-glass curtain wall system, to enhance the building's integrality. The alteration between transparency and opaqueness of curtain walls offers flexibility for blocking or bringing in outdoor environment, and the plug-in unitized curtain wall system helps save energy.
The podiums apply a curtain wall system of glazing and perforated aluminum sheets, showing a contrast of solidness and lightness. Parametric design methods render a dynamic and expressive architectural image.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Site area: 39,586 square meters

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Located in Haining, the project is a landmark-oriented development, aiming to establish a leading architectural system, create a vigorous display surface for the city, as well as accelerate the development of the surrounding areas. Based on the integration of conference & exhibition center, world-class commercial center, leisure facilities, 5 star hotel and 5A-class office building, as well as a new architectural design concept, the project will perform an exemplary effect.
CHALLENGE: The project is an ultra high-rise complex integrating a five-star hotel, BLS headquarters, office of Haining Medium Center, and an international banquet center. The various functions lead to complicated and interweaving circulation routes in the basement and complex vertical traffic of the tower. Therefore, the main challenge is how to build a convenient and efficient internal and external circulation system, so as to ensure the convenient, orderly operation of various building functions.
