PRIMARY FUNCTION:

INSPIRATION:
The design is inspired by Erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument. Erhu’s unique timbre is presented in the form of seats by interpreting the intangible with the tangible.
Erhu has a long history in China. The shape of the back leg simulates the Ming style hoof shaped leg, which is a tribute to Ming style furniture and interprets traditions in a new way.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Inspired by Erhu, a traditional Chinese classical instrument, the design incorporated national culture as a language of modern furniture, exploring a new style of contemporary Chinese furniture.
The structure is so simple that there are only two parts: seat surface and legs. The chair back, seat surface and front leg are made of curved plywood as a whole, and the three dimensional seating space is completed with two dimensional curves fitting the shape of the human body.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The chair is ergonomic in design，Sitting on it fits the human body perfectly. The integrated shape of the seat surface, chair back and front leg is completed by pressing the curved plywood in a premade mold.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The integrated shape of the seat surface, chair back and front leg is completed by pressing the curved plywood in a premade mold.
The surface used ash wood and walnut for veneering. The legs are made of walnut.

PROFILE:
Han Mei, Chinese furniture designer, graduated from the furniture design, Tokyo Designers College, Japan, and her graduation design has won the most outstanding design award and been collected by college till now.
From 2013 to 2018, 9 pieces of her works were selected for Christie's private sales. In 2018, two works from the "She" series were selected for Christie's 2018 first open Hong Kong Auction and sold above the reserve price.
