DESIGN NAME: Vitra Tower
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Medical Office Building
INSPIRATION: The project started from the client's need to build a office medical building that was differentiated from others of the same type. Thus, we seek inspiration both in conventional commercial buildings, studying ways to change the perception of conventional elements, as well as in the buildings themselves that have already succeeded in this same challenge.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The architectural design of the Vitra Tower had the principle of producing a building that conveyed seriousness, due to the program of medical offices, but that was also pleasant to work with. In this way, we added a new element to the characteristic glass skin of commercial buildings: a large concrete grid that fills almost the entire facade of the project, with different spacings that contribute to bringing dynamism to the building.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project stands out for its search for a differentiated solution for a building intended for commercial use, bringing a language that conveys seriousness, but that is also pleasant and contemporary.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is located in the city of Santo Angelo, in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil. The project is under construction.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: For the project, we chose techniques, technologies and materials common to the interior region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The structural system of reinforced concrete was used, sealing in masonry walls, glass skin and external finishing in tile. In terms of materiality, concrete was also used for the facade grid, as well as wood in some points.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The project consists in an eleven levels medical building, seven of which are standard floors, with three rooms per floor: two smaller ones facing the front, totaling 35.00 m² private area each. Towards the back, there is a larger room with 65.00 m² of private area. The last two floors consist of a duplex clinic with a terrace that occupies the entire floors, totaling 310.00 m² of private area. The basement, ground floor and second floor are intended for private garages and infrastructure, in addition to the access and circulation hall itself.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The project was based on a deep analysis of both the terrain's constraints, such as topography, solar orientation and interesting views, as well as the city's own urban legislation. Then, we went after architectural references that conveyed the same feeling we wanted to pass on: of a serious building, but comfortable and pleasant.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of this project was to seek an architecture that conveyed seriousness, to bring legitimacy to office rooms and health clinics, but that was also unconventional and pleasant for its users. A deep understanding of the master plan for the city of Santo Ângelo was also essential to develop a building that worked and also respected the city.
