| DESIGN NAME: Pikku PRIMARY FUNCTION: Vase INSPIRATION: The recycled glass collection of small vases is inspired by soap bubbles and romantic movies. The philosophy of the vase is that the small details in our life are precious. In the hectic world it is important to pay attention to a single flower. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Studio made Pikku vase is hand shaped from recycled waste glass. The rhythm of the glass making process ensures that every vessel has unique splashes of color that mimic the dance of brush strokes of abstract impression. Every vase has their own breath. Its a metaphor for a soul of a piece that makes it more than mere interior object. Pikku combines sustainable thinking with Scandinavian design philosophy. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design philosophy of the Pikku collection is to create small everyday objects that bring joy and serenity into our everyday life. The moment when a studio made vessel with bright colors is used is special. When light is gleaming trough the glass, the shadow of the piece comes alive reflecting the inner color play. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2022 and was first exhibited in the Museum of Fine Arts Eemil, Lapinlahti, Finland. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Pikku Collection mixes cool North with capricious Finnish glass blowing techniques that allow color flow freely within the glass layers. Glass collection is available in pink, blue and purple. Vessels are mouth blown and shaped by hand, signed and numbered. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Studio made glass. Hand shaped. Free formed. 100 mm tall. TAGS: glass, vessel, vase, design, object, finland RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Pikku Collection experiments with the contrasting nature of the glass medium. How voluminous glass can look weightless and how the optics of the glass influence the movement of color. The collection aims to reflect recycled glass as a material of a high quality. CHALLENGE: The creative challenge of the glass vase project is to use color in an abstract way and still create harmoniouss impressions. The scale of the object is small, therefore finding the balance between movement and shape is challenging. The glass making process of the collection is mixing traditional glass blowing techniques in a fresh and new way.
