DESIGN NAME: Gaelic Games Victoria
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Corporate Identity
INSPIRATION: This logo had to represent both Gaelic Games and the State of Victoria, and an inspiration behind our design was vintage Australian Rules Football crests, namely the The Big V logo for Victoria which was created in 1879. We started with a strong central V mark, before adding a circle frame for the organisations name and illustrations that symbolised Irish Gaelic games.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Gaelic Football and Hurling are sports that welcome men, women, boys and girls from all backgrounds. There’s been a significant increase in participation of Gaelic Games in Australia, mainly with Irish immigrants keen to maintain a connection with the national sports of their youth, but also from people who have been introduced the games on TV and social media. Gaelic Games Victoria wanted an identity that was inclusive, inspirational, and a symbol that reflected the professionalism they bring to the GAA, which is proudly recognised as the largest amateur sporting organisation in the world.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The logo was designed to give everyone associated with Gaelic Games in the Australia confidence in this organisation.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research for this project included Gaelic club and country crests from Ireland, and also Australian Rules Football Club badges.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to design a brand identity that looked professional on business cards, marketing collateral and communications, whilst also creating a crest that players could proudly wear on jerseys and merchandise. We needed to develop a logo design that worked equally well, when embroidered badges and displayed on giant flag banners.
