DESIGN NAME: Boat
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Functional Sculpture
INSPIRATION: Boat offers more possibilities for products to interact between people and the environment. The product is no longer limited to mechanical switches, but can be started through language, gestures, etc.,which bring better interesting experience to users.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Boat is an innovative interactive toy. It provides the novelty and interesting interactive experiences to the users by interactive feedback on the perception of things around it. Boat breaks the monotonous interaction mode between products and users by increasing the impact of environmental changes on the product that greatly enriches the interest of Boat as a toy and consumers' desire to explore products.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Boat is inbuilt highly sensitive vibration sensor, the main shaft surface designs concave directional track. When the sensor feels the vibration, the product starts, the main drive shaft rotates, and the structure in the groove of the rotation shaft moves due to gravity, and pushing the whole forward.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2021 at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, and be completed and produced in October 2021.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: For Boat, in addition to sensors and motors, all modeling, transmission mechanism and hardware structure are finished by 3D printing, which perfectly fit the form of modeling and rhythm of transmission mechanism.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Characteristics Complex structures are divided into static mechanism and dynamic mechanism. The characteristic of dynamic integration mechanism is that it is free of assembly and can realize dynamic connection. The traditional mechanical components need to be printed individually step by step and then assemble them together. But 3D printing can save assembly steps and get the whole mechanism without assembly.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: By observing the movement of arthropods, simulating the spine of arthropod as the main axis of the model, extracting the movement law of arthropods, designing the mechanism model by computer aided tools, and solid works simulation. we determined the movement regulation of the mechanism.
CHALLENGE: The crankshaft shape and fitness of the product have been adjusted several times to make the whole product run smoothly.
