| DESIGN NAME: One Villa PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: The project faces a river and nestles against a mountain, enjoying beautiful natural landscapes. One Villa inherits the natural outlook, cultural outlook and the outlook of the times featured by Sunac's Chinese-style residential developments, and meanwhile draws inspiration from traditional Chinese philosophy that advocates the integration of nature and human to conceive buildings and landscapes, so as to create novel scenes in a contemporary context. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project adopts a symmetrical layout, simple and pure lines, and Chinese-style spatial order. The architecture features concise yet lively lines, and delicate, elegant tones. The slightly curved roof is a modern interpretation of traditional roofs. The overall building appearance inherits the charm of traditional Jiangnan architecture. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The gateway at the front adopts a symmetrical layout, simple, pure lines and Chinese-style spatial order, with the pine trees on both sides greeting visitors. The transitional space in the middle features a walkable corridor and calming waterscape. The courtyard at the back embraces winding corridors and waterscapes, a viewing loft, stacked stones and natural landscapes, full of a poetic, secluded ambience. As standing on the loft on 2F, visitors can enjoy the soft breeze and totally free their mind. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Metal roof panels used for the slightly curved roof, blue walls, dark grey tiles, and bronze-colored metal grilles as well as door and window frames are a modern interpretation of traditional architecture. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Drawing inspiration from Xunyang Tower built in Jiujiang in the Song Dynasty, the spatial pattern is composed of three layers of space, including front gateway, middle transitional space and back courtyard. The gateway leverages a symmetrical layout, and is unfolded in a horizontal manner, featuring golden ratio proportions. The main building volume takes cues from the proportions of Xunyang Tower's two-storey loft, and uses modern materials respond to the solidness and void of traditional architecture. TAGS: Sunac, Jiujiang, Demonstration area, academy, traditional architecture, symmetrical layout RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As a place for Confucianism education, academy is a Chinese cultural gem, as it plays an important role in Chinese traditional culture and educational history. The project draws on the spatial order of Bailudong Academy in Lushan, and reinterprets it in a contemporary context. The design creates a picturesque space that combines both ancient and modern charm, and presents a natural, elegant lifestyle. CHALLENGE: Most modern urbanites long for a livable, enjoyable and tranquil living environment. In view of this, One Villa redefines modern lifestyle by offering ideal secluded living spaces, making residences as ideal as the "Peach Blossom Shangri-la" depicted by Tao Yuanming, a renowned ancient Chinese poet, and as the "Utopia" by Plato.
