DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Doe O-Mega Urban Complex

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Building

INSPIRATION:
Inspired by the existing atrium office space, the design is combined with the elliptical outline to maximize the utilization rate of the site. Under the conditions of echoing the sunshine, external climate, urban landscape, and commercial connection, the building forms a three-dimensional O-shape urban complex (Mega City) with a scale of 400,000 square meters, including office, residential, hotel, commerce, and meeting space.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
After the redevelopment, in addition to the renovation of the original working space, the project will create a shared complex space integrating fashion and entertainment which open to the public population. The project is expected to be a landmark building, which also provides a demonstration of the green and sustainable development of the city.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The railings of the building are equipped with transparent photovoltaic glass, which can collect and use solar energy. The roof of the commercial podium is designed as an urban garden, which greatly reduces the heat island effect. It is not only the front garden of the hotel but also a sports park for citizens to share and interact.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project is designed in 2017 and it has been approved by the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, and it has gone to further phrase.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Architecture, Building and Structure Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Considering the hot and humid climate in Manila, the materials need to be rust-proof and moisture-proof. At the same time, the facade of the building uses a light color to reduce the amount of light absorption and reduce the temperature. The main materials adopted include concrete, aluminum plate, and glass.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The fact that large-scaled buildings will produce microclimatic changes to the environment happens to be an architectural strategy in this project. The atrium is under shade most of the day, naturally becoming a comfortable outdoor space. The setting of the wind tunnel can reduce wind resistance and save structural materials at the same time. Natural wind adjusts the temperature of the atrium and the ventilation of the lobby to adjust the temperature as well, which can reduce the energy consumption of air conditioning.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Located at the northeast corner of Bonifacio Global City in the Philippines, the project site is the most economically prosperous area in Metro Manila. The original building is the office of the Philippine National Petroleum Corporation and the Department of Energy.

CHALLENGE:
To solve the problem of how to integrate the park and landscape in the urban complex, the park landscape is raised to the roof of the podium, becoming a comfortable roof garden that combines the sunlight of the building with the self-shading and ventilation.

We believe all matter is connected and against nature, and ultimately able to achieve a dynamic equilibrium exists. Similarly, the process of forming cities and buildings is subject to different external forces' impact. These effects may vary with time and place and change, including economic, social, cultural, local climate, government, developers, or other aspects of the conditions and limitations. These forces need to completely analyzed, and not in a positive or negative to be treated. With its own characteristics play to achieve balanced integration of state and nature reflected, morphology and thus also generated (Phase from the heart). The face of the urban and architecture, should not be a single screening result, but complementary and diverse.
