| DESIGN NAME: Jin Yue Wan PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sales Center INSPIRATION: Located in the heartland of Jiangnan Region, China, the project carries waterland culture. Taking design inspiration from the famous Jichang Garden in Wuxi, it applies traditional garden creation approaches to architecture and maximizes the use of the site. Based on the Chinese-style architectural style and elements, it introduces the living concept of Chinese courtyard dwellings, and creates an elegant oriental atmosphere by inheriting Chinese academy culture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Cuizhu South Road leads to the immersive demonstration area with six garden landscapes. The overall landscape planning inherits the three-millennia-old Jiangnan garden creation wisdom, and absorbs the quintessence of the local Jichang Garden and street & lane culture, intending to create a contemporary destination with unique garden landscapes. Traditional techniques for stacking stones, designing water system, arranging plants, installing lattice windows and paving are adopted. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project takes design cues from traditional courtyard buildings in Wuxi. Based on the functional layout, the building facades and components combine traditional fabric with new elements, incorporate local cultural characteristics and the iconic Neo-Chinese Style, and draw on elements from Chinese poems, books, rites and music, in order to upgrade the courtyard scenes and create a poetic environment. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: New techniques and optimization of scales make the buildings appear simple and light. Facade details, such as clear, soft stones, champagne-colored materials and Chinese-style elements, reflect an inheritance of traditional Chinese-style design. The landscape pavilion in the garden adopts Chinese classical mortise and tenon joint structures, which were made by old craftsmen. No single nail was used in the process of construction. (Wuxi Subsidiary) RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The buildings within the demonstration area blend with nature, bringing nature into the interior space and connecting outdoors with interiors. The courtyard spaces add layering to the buildings and create pleasant environments, so all the visible spaces present the best visual effects. The design preserves the charm and quintessence of Chinese-style architectures and innovates through modern approaches, so as to make the Chinese-style buildings more natural, modern and dynamic. CHALLENGE: The project carries the forms of traditional Chinese buildings, courtyards and lanes, and showcases a return to traditional rituals. A big challenge lies in how to ensure the building design features a Chinese style without being conservative and at same time keeping pace with the times. In addition, how to combine aesthetics, practicality and low operating cost is also challenging.
