DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Farmer House in Kudara

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Country Home

INSPIRATION:
The site is located near a temple called Kudara Temple, which is an important cultural asset, so consideration had to be given to the landscape. The site is extremely long and narrow, and it was important to find a way to arrange the necessary functional space. Therefore, the design was based on the concept of a low-rise volume that would not block the sunlight against the surrounding farmland, taking into consideration the landscape and sunlight, and aiming for harmony with the beautiful paddy fields.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This location is very hot and humid in the summer. It was necessary to prevent the large roof from being heated by sunlight and making the entire house too hot. Therefore, a rainwater cooling system was adopted to take advantage of the wide roof. It is collected in a central atrium and pumped back up to the roof, where it is expected to cool the house through evaporation. In the winter the excess water is reused for toilets and other purposes, which is also environmentally friendly. The roof deck, with its characteristic curve, also provides a playground for children, even on a site with limited space.

CHALLENGE:
As a farmhouse, the challenge was to secure space for cargo handling and aisles, while arranging functions within the limited area and proportions of the house. Therefore, all small functions (storage, TV, piano, refrigerator, washbasin, and workspace) were placed on the west side of the house. The bedrooms, dining room, and other living rooms are dynamically connected through the courtyard to create a practical space.
