| DESIGN NAME: Dusit Thani Laguna PRIMARY FUNCTION: Golf Resort Hotel INSPIRATION: The architectural design for the hotel and clubhouse is inspired by the green undulating landscape of the golf course. The sleek, curvilinear form presents itself with a distinctive aesthetic character from whatever angle it is viewed. It takes a life of its own encompassing the club and hotel functions under one swooping roof with a dominant and exciting sculptural form which complements the gorgeous natural landscape that the golf course of Dusit Thani Laguna provides. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Surrounded by a stunning landscape, Dusit Thani Laguna, formerly known as Laguna National Golf and Country Club, one of the prominent golf and country club in Singapore since its inauguration in 1993, is set to be a premier urban golf resort with the addition of a new five-star luxury hotel. The project is a state-of-the-art union of a world-class golf club and a Dusit-Thani branded hotel. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The hotel, with rooms from the first to the sixth-storeys, includes a group of penthouses with private terraces. There are also eight corporate booths, each with their own elevated pool, facing directly the golf course. Here, functions can be hosted especially during golf tournaments. The golf club functions are located on the first-storey, on a mezzanine level, and on the second-storey. The clubhouse, also known as the 19th hole, is where golfers relax after a round of golf. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The roof which is made of special cementitious fiber boards and a marine grade mebrane, displays a uniform seamless surface with no visible joints. An optimal visual effect is achieved both from afar and from a closer look, following the original design. The over-arching roof and shared, glazed facade, give the premise a spacious appearance and let the occupants enjoy a spectacular landscape view. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dusit Thani Laguna is a 1,168,652.5 sqm urban golf resort development. The project includes a makeover of the existing three-storey clubhouse and the provision of a six-storey new hotel. The union of a Dusit Thani hotel and multimillion clubhouse, introduces a new set of social and recreational privileges for both members golfers and hotel patrons. The resort caters to guests looking for the perfect golfing experience as well as those simply seeking to witness and enjoy its beautiful landscape. CHALLENGE: The two functions of the building, combining a hotel and clubhouse, make it a complex proposition. The idea for a single, unified, and seamless roof seems quite challenging due to the discrepancy in height and awkward marriage of the two buildings with largely different functions. MDL did extensive research to find the technology to effectuate the plan. The result is a dynamic and unified building that in a powerful movement merges almost seamlessly with the surging landscape of the golf course.
