INSPIRATION:
According to NPR’s: Will your job be done by a machine? the report, there’s an 8 percent chance that graphic design jobs will become automated within 20 years. How can we convince current designers that Artificial Intelligence is not a threat and should be embraced in order to help them solve problems by doing highly repetitive jobs?
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The thesis, Minarva, is a campaign that aims to create a meaningful human-machine relationship. Instead of eliminating the designer’s occupation, Artificial Intelligence will become a design partner and tool that designers can utilize to meet ever-evolving workplace demands. Minarva can help designers get a basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence and the impact it brings to the design field. This should encourage designers to take advantage of this technology.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Artificial Intelligence In Graphic Design Conference is a 3-day event in San Francisco, CA in November. Each day there is a design workshop, talks from different speakers. The goal behind this event is to help designers understand what is Artificial Intelligence and how to work with Artificial Intelligence to achieve something bigger in the creative industry.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The MFA thesis project started in September 2017 and finished in December 2019 in San Francisco.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The graphic design MFA thesis development research aims to engage technology in a meaningful way by improving the designer's skills. In 2018, a total of 36 designers and computer scientists joined the focus group in San Francisco which generated meaningful insights that lead to a thesis project. Various deliverables were developed including a promotional campaign, website, design app, publication, and design conference materials.
CHALLENGE:
The lack of understanding of Artificial Intelligence technology is the main reason why humans fear being replaced by machines. The most challenging aspect of promoting Artificial Intelligence technology is organizing and delivering information to convince graphic designers that Artificial Intelligence cannot replace creative and critical thinking tasks but only do repetitive and monotonous jobs.

The title of their work, "Artificial Intelligence In Design" is very creative and it speaks to the modern world of design that is emerging. The event marketing material that was created is absolutely stunning! It shows a perfect balance between creativity, innovation and modern design principles.
