RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With a prominent site position between a preserved wetland park and a residential commercial zone, from the urban perspective, Yoyo City is not just a retail mall. It needs to act as an urban link. The design creates a city living room that offers an external communal belt and internal natural green garden. It serves to strengthen the connection between the community and its natural surroundings, providing diversified experience to the people of Yinchuan.
CHALLENGE: Surrounded by large residential complex, Yoyo City has become an important extension of public playground. Dedicating the public space and pedestrian flow on ground level and allowing the vehicular access and circulation in basement level including the main drop off area have become the challenge. As much active as ground level, the basement is yet set to be another vital commercial arrival point and it needs to be equally important to the ground level.
