DESIGN NAME: Citychamp Dartong Plaza
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Headquarters and Creative Offices
INSPIRATION: FUJIAN TULOU
The general massing of the building is informed by a traditional local typology that features an exquisite circular layout centered around a generous courtyard, one that both protects and cultivates the community.
SHIPBUILDING
Echoing a wooden ship’s hull, the compelling vertical rhythm of the main facades pays tribute to the local tradition of shipbuilding, for centuries part of the economic and cultural landscape of Fuzhou.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Office Hub of Citychamp Dartong Plaza spearheads the millennial generation shift by actively adapting to the shifting paradigms in working habits across Mainland China and the world. In a time when China's image is rapidly transitioning from the world's "factory" to its "digital innovation hub", this project goes beyond providing efficient working areas to create a healthy and ecologic community for the country's new workforce generation - a community that breeds innovation.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Since the building will accommodate the client's headquarters, but also the offices of their affiliate companies, special care is given to strengthen the interaction and cohesion of the different teams sharing the office floors. By arranging the working spaces around a large outdoor patio, the building's organization invites interaction and community building on its extensive green outdoor terraces, that can be used for impromptu meetings or for large corporate events. The ample provisions of F&B / retail spaces on the ground floor ensure that the building responds to all the requests of the millennial workforce, from creative working spaces to easily accessible facilities such as cafes, banks, gyms, etc.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is located in the bustling manufacturing hub of Fuzhou in Southern China's Fujian province. NDA Group won the masterplanning & architecture design competition of in 2014, then proceeded with the preliminary and detailed design. The building is nearing completion in 2020.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To create a living showcase of the best ecological practices, the volumes are basically shaped by their green features, both on the inside (generous green atriums that concentrate the circulations), and on the outside (complex system of cantilevered terraces creating sheltered spaces that minimize energy losses and allow building users to move around the building during extreme weather conditions).
