| DESIGN NAME: Aqua Spa PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hotel INSPIRATION: Inspired by the common yearning among people today for a return to a time where life was so much simpler. An Oriental themed interior was carefully curated to provide the space with ampule of peace and serenity. The aim was to provide an atmosphere that is not only pleasing to the eye but evokes emotional comfort that one would bring home to heart. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Strategically positioned lighting elements that draw attention to these spaces in just the right way by revealing the rugged surfaces of the stone-covered walls and the way the flecked gold wallpaper changes color depending on the viewing angle. Another design element that is sure to catch one's eye is the metal geometric gradation pattern that covers a large area of the premises and makes it easy to visually distinguish it from the other parts of the spa center. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Aqua spa caters to an exquisite lifestyle and luxury indulgence to the surrounding community which includes a tea and chess room, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, pool, buffet, VIP lounge and etc. Greeted with an Oriental themed interior, one would find the space beautifully planned with much activities to explore, paired with just the right amount of feature highlights. Contrasting the dark spaces for relaxation, to the light spaces for activities while playing with textured wallpaper and blending it with natural stone finishes to create visual interest. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design is to recreate a place where one can have a sense of being transported back in time to enjoy the serenity and tranquil of a simpler life with the benefit of advanced technology. The richness of textures and materials used are heavily prioritized to enable the design to match perfectly with one another while, contrasting decors which blends in well with the interior were also used to add in interest and to bring out the uniqueness of the spa. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The commercial interior consist of approximately 42,160sqft, located in Bukit Mertajam, Malaysia. TAGS: Spa design, luxury spa, lifestyle interior, classy interior, public space, commercial space RESEARCH ABSTRACT: There has been an extensive research on luxury spas when designing as we wanted to capture the experience of fully immersing oneself to enjoy and relax. The whole process was tedious as we needed to be able to extract samples of materials used as the hues are so similar that it will only be differentiated through textures. Besides experimenting with different textures, we experimented with different types of lighting and ways to place it in order to create a certain temperament and the results were stunning, comfortable and yet classy for many to enjoy and unwind. CHALLENGE: Due to the geographical location of Malaysia, many materials were source from other countries in order to get the ambiance and the authenticity of what to be presented in the interior.
