| DESIGN NAME: CR Land Luyang MiXC PRIMARY FUNCTION: Retail INSPIRATION: The inspiration comes from our desire for nature in a busy urban context. We created dialogues with nature on three different aspects. Firstly, we create five gardens on all different levels as a buffer to the city. Secondly, building façade as interpretation of nature creates unique feature for the project. Finally, nature has been extended to the indoor area, to create a unique shopping/walking space with an outdoor experience. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A series of signature spaces have been created, such as the sky sports park with the first ever cantilevered running track on a shopping mall in mainland China. With a well-designed retail circulation, we fit a horse-track loop inside the 75 m depth of floor plan so we can accommodate more than 220 tenants with a 76,115 sqm GFA, which gives visitors a more diverse shopping experiences. A unique green space is also introduced at every level of the mall to enhance indoor and outdoor connections. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project is an example of how both our architecture and interior teams are thinking outside the box to adapt to changing consumer behavior, fusing new ideas into projects that promotes wellbeing and provide a relaxed, natural environment. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2016 and finished in September 2019. It's located in Hefei City,China. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In order to achieve a clear roof for our “Sky Park”, the design team coordinates with landscape, mechanical and structural engineer to remove all the MEP rooms to the outskirt of the main roof. The “Sky Ring”——a cantilevered running track was also beautifully realized by using large spanned steel structure. On the top of track, fully transparent floor has been implemented to emphasis the extraordinary running experience. A unified metal Fin was covered on the main curved façade, to create a dynamic lighting and shadow affects from different views of the city. On the one hand, the surrounding residents are looking for better life experience; on the other hand, quite amount of excessive shopping malls in Hefei are in poor operation. So rather than design a shopping mall, we want to create a gathering place. Based on the concept of “vertical city gardens”, the project creates unique spaces such as a sky court, a sky runway, a sky swimming pool, a roof garden, and sports parks to create a series of unique, boundless and natural shopping experience in this very brand new era. CHALLENGE: The project site is along a major city avenue with direct connection to metro station. However, the local competition from other shopping centers is fierce. How to make this medium sized project stand out has become the challenge for us.
