DESIGN NAME: Solitaire Twisted
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring
INSPIRATION: The inspiration for this solitaire ring was to construct everything from one wire. It should be light and yet compact. An engagement ring should be created that is clear in its form and soft in its appearance. The ring should also be very comfortable and wearable at any occasion. It should not be the usual narrow and conical closed setting often chosen for engagement rings, it should move to a new type of setting that comes from the ring band itself.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This ring is characterized by clear lines, a flowing form and a high level of wearing comfort. The twisted setting stretches the diamond upwards and at the same time gives it a lightness that is created by the transparency of the twisted ring band. Seen from above, the little secret of this lightness cannot be seen, because despite the compact setting, the diamond has a strong luminosity due to the lateral transparency.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: During the development of the ring, the concentration was on the setting. The diamond should be firmly set, nothing should disturb the simplicity of the setting and the ring band and yet there should be tension in the statement of the ring. The twist of the upper ring band which holds the setting of the diamond made this possible. The setting with the diamond seems to float
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2018 and ended in July 2019. The ring is produced in Steinbach (Taunus), Germany.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The ring was designed on a computer using CAD, plotted in wax and cast in platinum 952. The casting was finished at the workbench and the diamond was set.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Ring size: Ø 54, Platinum 952, Diamond Ø 6.5 mm TW vsi 1.0 ct.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In order to create the ring, it was necessary to examine how much the ring band could be tapered and still maintain the tension of the twisted setting while holding the gemstone. This was necessary because the setting was subject to considerable pressure and the spiral was not allowed to compress.
CHALLENGE: The most difficult part of designing this object was getting the ring ready for serial production in a wide variety of alloys, stone and ring sizes without changing the proportions of the entire ring during production.
