DESIGN NAME: HK Port Passenger Clearance Building
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cross Border Crossing Facility
INSPIRATION: The PCB is constantly filled with movement with people arriving and departing by buses, cars and taxis. It serve as a gateway for all those passing through it, providing Hong Kong with a new ‘front door’ celebrating travel and surrounded by water with views to a natural skyline of evergreen mountains and hills. The elegant modular roof form ideally lends itself to offsite pre-fabrication and has enabled an efficient construction process achieving a very high level of quality.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is a large sea-crossing linking Hong Kong with Zhuhai City and Macao. The Passenger Clearance Building (PCB) serve as a transportation hub to provide clearance facilities for goods and passengers respectively using the bridge. The objective of the HKBCF is to create a new landmark building that reflects Hong Kong as a vibrant global and metropolitan city, and a gateway of Hong Kong to serve for the western part of Pearl River Delta via HZMB.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: -
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The PCB is located on an artificial island of approximately 150 hectares. It is reclaimed from the open waters off the northeast of the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The PCB is geographically located at a convenient location with good air / road / rail / sea transportation connectivity. The project commenced in December 2010 and was opened in October 2018.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The building is sheltered by a 310 metre long, 162 metre wide wave-form roof; the structure of which is composed of steel-work with the building zoned into a series of structured bays, supported by a casting system with arms that hold up the structure and span 36m by 18m.
