| DESIGN NAME: Winter Navel PRIMARY FUNCTION: Orange Package INSPIRATION: Our aim is to illustrate the significance of winter navel's elongated growth routine and the prosperous state of the farm. To redefine the traditional appearance of agricultural products, the design is created with vibrant energy in response to the taste to younger generations. The twisted and intertwine stems of an orange tree depicted in four seasons is inspired by the tale of jack and the beanstalk. It suggests a powerful growth of the orchard, and emphases harmony between nature and mankind. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design is to promote the orange, named winter naval, produced from an organic farm in southern china. the package includes two sizes of cardboard boxes, information cards, envelopes for orange peelers and the protection sheets for oranges. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: we use watercolor as main tool to illustrate the growth process of winter navel. we also demonstrate the beauty of farmland scenery. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2019 in Hangzhou and finished in July 2019 in Hangzhou, and was manufactured in Guangzhou in August 2019. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: the illustration on the package was hand drawn with watercolor and color pencils, then scanned into photoshop to future modification. it then combine with pattern and logo generated by computer. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: this package design was manufactured in two different sizes: 1. 5kg pack, 360mm x 263mm x 141mm 2. gift pack, 260mm x 260mm x 80mm TAGS: package design, food package, fruit package, hand drawing RESEARCH ABSTRACT: we did research on how winter navel grow in different seasons and what does an orange tree looks like during various stage. meanwhile we studied watercolor drawing techniques in order to produce vivid image for package design. CHALLENGE: Rather than using simple computer drawing for the package, we choose to use hand drawing to demonstrate the spirit of craftsman. the winter naval orange can only be picked after the baptism of the four seasons, client asked to promote this feature to customers through package design, that's why we use hand drawing and illustrate different form of orange tree through four seasons.
