Interview with Julia Eliseeva at Tuesday 1st of May 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? JE: Creating the concept of the console table, I was inspired by the Byzantine architecture drawings. In my opinion the buildings plans outlines of that architectural period look extremely contemporary now. The console table design is based on the San Vitale Basilica in Ravenna plan and interior. Shape and volume are determined by the plan, while the colors and choice of materials are associated with the interior decoration of the Basilica. Capacious contemporary design cutting off all that is superfluous, but containing the historical heritage. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? JE: I wanted to create contemporary harmonious design with foundation of golden proportion. Design must be beautiful and human-scaled. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? JE: I would like to get request to produce my product and inclusion of them into the manufacturer's catalogue. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? JE: One or two weeks. As I said earlier, the design is based on the San Vitale Basilica plan. If you look at the plan, you will see a lot of outlines. I was seeking for the right shape for these lines. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? JE: It was inspiration. I saw architecture drawings of the Basilica in a different light. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? JE: Now It is just a concept. I would like to get request to produce my product and inclusion of them into the manufacturer's catalogue. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? JE: I get used to create objects in the context of a particular interior. This time it became interesting for me to create something out of context. This is much more complicated. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? JE: The console table is appropriate for residential usage. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? JE: The design was named as a tribute to San Vitale Basilica which inspired me to create the console table. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? JE: SketchupPro and Vray FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? JE: Design concept belongs to me. For future production I will need people with technical / specialized skills. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? JE: I have received a personal invitation to submit my design from contest’s PR department.
