Interview with Andrea Kac at Tuesday 8th of April 2014 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? AK: The main idea was to create a simple product that could solve all the issues from working from home in a small apartment. A product that would work as a hub to connect and gather all the small objects and devices that normally have no real space in the home. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? AK: I wanted to achieve a fun to use product that was simply produced. Firstly because I fin it important to surround oneself with fun objects that become a living part of your home. It was very important the product speaked for itself and that it could be affordable. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? AK: My plan is to work towards production and see it come to life. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? AK: The idea for this product has been going in my head for some years now but it was not so long ago that the real inspiration for the shape and its playfulness came to me. It has been some three months since then and still working on it. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? AK: I pursuited an inspiration. I had been wanting to design a small side table with great functionality for some time now. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? AK: I intend to lease or sell the product rights so Chezca can be produced and in the market. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? AK: I find it interesting designing objects that solve new needs and current situations but in a whimsy and simple way. So this product sums up all of these. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? AK: The targeted customer would be young people living in small places and often working or studying long hours in these. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? AK: I believe it is set apart because it gathers many useful and simple functions that not many side tables have but with a great side of funky to it making the piece fun to use and have. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? AK: Chezca was the name of my family dog. She used to have a very strong bark and everytime we took her for a walk she would be be pulling us around, walking us instead of us walking her. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? AK: Corel Draw, Autocad, 3ds Max, Photoshop. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? AK: How it solves many daily issues in one product but in a very simple way. If you look at the table you would not say it is a multifunctional object yet it is. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? AK: No, I worked on my own for this project. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? AK: I tried to use the most simple technology and the most simple process for production. I find amusing designing a product that doesn't need super modern technology, but supports itself from a well studied shape and function. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? AK: Mainly studying which were the basic problems or issues of working or studying from a small home, especially regarding the extensive use of electronic devices. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? AK: I have been participating from South American design competitions for two years now and decided it was time to try my chances with a more international one.
