Interview with Ekaterina Pine at Sunday 22nd of May 2022

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
EP: Belly App is the application for women who want to track their pregnancy and save life balance during this period. This project was based on my personal experiences during pregnancy, so this topic is very close to me. I suggested the application for active women who want to track of their pregnancy and save balance between everyday routine and new activities.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
EP: I suggested the application for active women who want to track of their pregnancy and save balance between everyday routine and new activities.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
EP: I think this application will grow into a big product, which will include applications that will help new parents.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
EP: 3 months

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
EP: I only had a direction of work, but the topic I took from research

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
EP: I intent to produce my work myrself

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
EP: This project was based on my personal experiences during pregnancy, so this topic is very close to me.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
EP: Jony Ive (Former Chief Design Officer at Apple Inc.)

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
EP: The main audience is pregnant woman who feel insecure and want to track their pregnancy according to their daily routine

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
EP: This application has added features that are not found in other similar applications. For example, a water consumption counter, which is important at all stages of pregnancy. And also special attention is paid to the visual part of the interface.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
EP: It's simple, these are two words pregnancy and belly

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
EP: Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Miro, Coda

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
EP: I think the convenience of the interface

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
EP: I worked alone, but sometimes consulted with other designers

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
EP: One of the main roles. The visual part was made with Adobe Suit and Figma. Moreover I designed the results of the study and the process itself in Miro, Coda and so one.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
EP: Of course! I prodided the study that included a lot of activities, such as competitor analysis, deep interview, survey, persona, UJM, function prioritization, wireframes & prototypes, tested and improved prototypes, usability testing and hypotheses validation.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
EP: To determine the weak and strong poins of the app and to identify user’s concerns, pains and motives.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
EP: I follow many designers who have participated in various competitions and I think that participation in competitions helps to move forward professionally.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
EP: I realized that you should not be afraid of mistakes.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
EP: I don't think I have anything to add
