This project is located in Suzhou, which is well known by the traditional Chinese garden design. The designer strove to bring together both her modernist sensibilities as well as the Suzhou vernacular. The design takes cues from traditional Suzhou architecture with its use of whitewashed plaster walls, moon doors and intricate garden architecture to re-envision the Suzhou vernacular in a contemporary context. Furnishings were re-created with recycled branches, bamboo, and straw ropes with students'participation, which gave the special meaning to this education space.
Miaofei Jiang loves traveling around the world alone and has a "childlike" curiosity and desire to explore design. He once lived and worked in Germany and the United States, and then chose to found MF+ Architecture in Shanghai. The diverse life experiences and cultural environment make her design thinking bold and emotional. Her designs transcend styles and techniques, and deeply explore the integration of "people's emotions" contained in the design itself.
