Osaka Nagaya has become aging and its number is decreasing due to development. As a result, the unique community cultivated through Nagaya culture become lost. In this project, they updated it as a living space, taking advantage of the features of Osaka Nagaya. Following are six specific key points: utilizing the yard, make it clear whether old material or newly-installed material is used for the finishing, reducing the size of the building to create deeper space under the eaves, keeping the water area compact, allowing for DIY and creating a manual on the method for seismic reinforcement.
UZULAB is an architectural design office based in Kobe City. It was established in 2002. The organizers are Masaaki Takeuchi and Koike shihoko. In 2014, Himika Masago joined as a staff member. Their design in architecture takes advantage of the characteristics of the place. Their works include the renovation of traditional Japanese architecture.
