The project is located on a triangular lot, where still a set of showrooms functions need to be fit in. Designers place three axes to divide up the street front of the site, and various scales of landscape and court yard spaces are formed. Along the path of circulation, a ramp connects programs of urban exhibition hall, tea bar, bar, and skating rink together. The ramp continues to spiral up to the VIP room and the Mock-up exhibition area on the second floor. The visitors can walk easily inside and outside the building to experience the amazing landscape.
Yingfan Zhang, received her Bachelor of Architecture from The Cooper Union – Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, her Master of Architecture in Urban Design form Harvard University. Her theoretical research focuses intensively on the interdisciplinary nature of Silk Road culture heritage and its impact on architecture. Her ongoing research explores the architecture and urbanism of rural China that initiates parts of the Silk Road. Prior to starting Atelier Alter, She worked for Atelier Raimund Abraham and RMJM North America. Her portfolio includes Qujing History Museum, BIT Sports Center, Islamic Office Complex, and so on. She is the award recipient for Excellent Designer of 2014 from China Interior Designer Golden League, CV Starr Scholar, Academic Excellence Award from AIA Brooklyn chapter, AIA/AAF Scholarship for First Professional Degree, Megan Lawrence Award and Honor Member of Golden Key Intl Honor Society. Xiaojun Bu, received his Bachelor of Architecture from Tsinghua University, his Master of Architecture II from Harvard University and is a licensed architect in the State of New York. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional since 2009. His working experience includes SOM New York, and Standardarchitecture. His practice focuses upon the connection between parametric and construction. His portfolio includes Senior Center of Guangxi, Xinglong Visitor Center, Yangzhou Science Center, and so on. He is the recipient for Zhongguancun Pioneer Award for High-Tech Entrepreneurship in 2012, Excellent Designer of 2014 from China Interior Designer Golden League, Outstanding Award of Liang Sicheng Cup and Academic Excellence Award from Tsinghua University.
Founded in 2009, Atelier Alter is a pioneering inter-disciplinary practice based in New York and Beijing. Noted for designing from critical analysis of the site, Atelier Alter has been recognized by numerous awards, including SARA National Award of Excellence2016, IDOL Gold Prize 2016 & 2014, 2013 Awards by Lighting Design Weekly, 2010 Excellence in Architecture Design of Fujian, etc. Atelier Alter focuses intensely upon culture facilities ever since the beginning of the practice. Atelier Alter wan the competitions to build Qujing Culture Center in 2009, by transferring the metaphysical context of the site into an artistic yet tangible urban space of historic remembrance. The Senior Culture Center won by Atelier Alter in 2010 and completed in 2014, exploded the typological transformation of bamboo bungalow into public facility. Projects by Atelier Alter have been published and featured by press of different parts of the world, including Domus, WA, A+A, Russian Design Hub, I’Arca International, Cooper Publishing, HKPIP, il Nuovo Cantiere, Landscape Design, Archdaily, Designboom, among others. Besides culture projects, the portfolio of Atelier Alter ranges from small scale furniture design to educational facilities and large urban scale projects.
