Kajal Naina Sherchan Rai Mountain beauty Necklace
Mountain beauty Necklace is Bronze Design Award winner in 2017 - 2018 Jewelry Design Award Category.
Mountain beauty Necklace

The designer had collected her ideas roughly on paper first, then perfected it on CAD. Then the pieces were 3D printed, cast in 14k yellow gold, set with the gemstones and assembled. A multifunctional jewellery, the centerpiece is a 3D version of the beautiful Rhododendron flower, pave set with Rubies and Tsavorite Garnet. It has a simple mechanism of connection to the diamond set necklace by 2 clasps on either side which allows it to be easily detached and be worn separately as a pendant on a chain or also a brooch. The designer was aiming for both beauty and functionality in this creation.

The brand Kajal Naina is passion poured over possessions. The jewellery line is named after the designer herself and the collections have assortment of elegant pieces that can be worn on a daily basis and can also be collected as family heirloom. As a qualified jewellery designer, Kajal Naina creates one-of-a-kind collections and bespoke items of jewellery for clients around the world. She was born and raised in Nepal, and has since spent time living in Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong. Kajal says that jewellery has always been a big part of her life and her culture. For her, jewellery, and gold, especially, is a connection to her mother, who’s no longer living. As a child, she loved watching her mother get ready for a big event. She remembers how her mother would choose a colorful sari from her big, steel closet that was just for saris. How she would lay the sari out on the bed, and then, with Kajal by her side, how she’d open the steel safe in the prayer room and pick the jewellery to go with it. While the safe was open, her mother would show her different ornaments; necklaces, earrings, bangles, rings and tell her stories about each one. Many, which she had received for her wedding. Some which came from Kajal’s grandmother, who had handed over the pieces over the years. Some, which her mother had picked up on trips to India, Thailand, Hongkong, Singapore, where she would always buy some small piece for Kajal as well. When Kajal started getting older, her mother started taking her to the store to pick out something special for every birthday. Always gold. So when Kajal sees, touches, and wears gold, she see both her past, her present and her future. She sees herself as a child, joyfully getting small pieces of gold as symbols of love from her parents and grandparents on birthdays and special occasions. She sees herself now, a confident and compassionate designer, who feels special every time she puts on her beloved jewelry pieces. And she sees herself years ahead, feeling safe and free. Kajal says that from her upbringing, investing in gold jewelleries represents a safety net. Even if she never sells her personal collections, she knows she has the leeway to take a year off or to handle whatever unplanned events life brings me. Most of all, she sees glamour. Jewellery is a way to look extra nice, to feel special all night when you’re at a party or out to dinner. Her love and passion for life and the strong motivation to use her talent to help people find their happiness is what makes every one of her creation so special. People usually buy jewellery during happy times: birthdays, anniversaries, proposals, weddings, holidays, and just to say “I love you.”  She loves that she gets to share in that happiness and bring joy in peoples lives. She loves making things that make others feel beautiful.
