The Inspiration of this pendant design is to combine a traditional Chinese Yin-Yang philosophy with a minimal surface form factor, so that it visually achieves a three dimensional modern sculpture. The sub inspiration comes from an old Chinese saying that metal and water mutually benefits each other. The ripple like pattern is applied on the concave areas, which represents water. The gold material itself represents metal. Thus, that is what Chinese called "Jin Shui Xiang Sheng".

I'm an industrial designer. I have been working in the ID realm for like fourteen years and I believe I will keep doing it then. My design works largely are for Lenovo where I work for ten years. I believe that I have touched almost all the categories across Lenovo and have successfully incubated many projects that got good feedback from my clients and society. I was also a footwear designer in Li-Ning a Chinese sport goods company. During that experience, I have learnt many methods about designing soft and fashionable products, which are different from industrial design. I love explore new design methods and I have learnt parametric design process. It's kind of like being chef. When you acquire many different style of cooking, you will try to exert the good part of them and fix them in some way. My understanding for the ID is to solve problems. So no matter any design method, only if the problems are solved in a effective, elegant, aesthetic and simple way that we should adapt it.

As an industrial designer, I define my role as giving forms to the related functions. However there's tons of forms that can solve similar problems, some simplify the working process, some evoke people's imagination. On the one hand, We respect the creativity, complexity and efficiency of a form which created by mother nature, we also appreciate the minimal attitude of zen. So the form really matters to a designer. Thus, the motivation behind forming has always been my first thought before initiating a project.
