Initially a reportage about Successful Aging on Sardinia this project became a permanent installation at the University of Zurich with more than 100 photographs focussing on social, historical, cutural and religious aspects. By exploring Sardinia's vibrant cities, rural villages and meeting many local families of civil servants, farmers, winegrowers, herders as well as their oldest family members, the reportage gives insights what it means for a person's individual life expectancy to grow old respected in an intact society and what each single day of a long life makes it worth living.
Karsten Thormaehlen's portraiture work, presented in more than 60 exhibitions and published in four books, gives an optimistic outlook to life at an advanced age.
