The TwiStool is a veneer stool drawing inspiration from its Scandinavian context and it has high utility with low production costs. Aesthetically, a variation of forms are presented when looked from different angles thanks to its dynamic twisting design. Functionally, The frame detail makes the stool ergonomically comfortable as well as being easily portable. The TwiStool uses vacuum press technique, forming 2D material to 3D object with natural textures and additional strength. It only needs one mold to produce all three legs, thus significantly reduces the costs.
Sherry Jiekun Qian, holds a Master of Fine Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Engineering from Beijing Forestry University. While completing her Masters, she traveled to Denmark to participate in the Scandinavian culture & furniture design program which expanded her multidisciplinary knowledge in design and provided a multicultural perspective. Qian relocated to New York City following her graduate studies to work at world famous kitchen & bath design company American Standard Brands where she contributes to many new product lines and design patents. Qian is the recipient of multiple industrial design awards including the A’Design Award. She has also made several press appearances showcasing her designs in addition to having her work featured in exhibitions such as the Milan Design Week. To cultivate her passion for design process and design thinking she has written and published three industrial design textbooks for undergraduate/graduate design majors.
