John G Williams Zene Dining chair
Zene Dining chair is Iron Design Award winner in 2017 - 2018 Furniture, Decorative Items and Homeware Design Award Category.
Zene Dining chair

Zene dining chair takes its inspiration from indigenous timber and Danish Modern design. The light ash frames are simple and robust and support hardwood seats and backrests that appear to float on the frame. The curved forms of the seat/backrest are not formed by bending the wood but rather by joining and shaping solid hardwood timber. As a series the light ash frames provide cohesion, and different local materials selected for the seat/backrests generate interest and relevance.

John G Williams

John is a mechanical engineer by training and spent much of his early career working out how best to manufacture products, and how to design them for manufacture. His successful professional career has been acutely analytic and 'left brained'. But John is also a keen saxophonist and artist, with an interest in sculpture and photography. His recent composition and album launch demonstrate his 'right brain' activity. In furniture design, John melds both left and right brain contributions. He synthesizes creative inputs to compose a design, and then analyzes the prototype designs to work out how to improve them for manufacture as well as aesthetic strength. By successfully appealing to both aspects of this thought processing capacity John constructs some simple yet high impact design work.

John G Williams

John G Williams is an independent designer with a passion for the highest quality craftsmanship. The main values of the brand are simplicity, ergonomic comfort, and enduring quality. The ZENE design was executed as a private project, and was then entered into the A' Design Competition in order to create awareness for the design, and to build a sense of broader interest. This is the first international furniture design competition that has been entered by John G Williams.
