Makoto Nakayama Kuki Hotel
Kuki Hotel is Silver Design Award winner in 2016 - 2017 Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award Category.
Kuki Hotel

It covers an area of approximately 3,800 square feet and a large, single-story with wooden roof. The rooms are only 07 rooms in total, they provide the utmost delicacy for each guest. They are small but comfortable spaces to compliment the density and coziness. External atmosphere is moist and the whole inn encourages the healing of the customer as if being on a boat. The boat with it's stone garden, enwraps you in a space that you would not want to step out. Two hours on train from Hakodate Station, the leisurely visit, seems to take all the hardship of life away.

Makoto Nakayama

Graduated from one of the best design universities in Japan he had contributed to Japanese modern architecture intensely. Establishing his own firm after 8 years he has won more than 36 design awards. He tries to give back by educating students and alike about architecture and shares his insights with his pupils. He's designs are concrete and clear cut, not affected by time. Frequently his designs are called ''japanese'' by many of his clients.

Kuki

The name of the work done for the client was Kuki (くき). We gave it a traditional Japanese touch by making it a in shape of a simple square. We used the same characters in Japanese but in right angles. Because the brand has a simply yet elegant philosophy we wanted to simplify it and make it minimal as per requested by the client.
