This is a renovation project for one of the most historical haberdasher in Ginza: the representative commercial district of Japan. While preserving the familiar atmosphere for their longtime customers, it was desired to welcome young customers to visit casually. Wooden furniture was designed to create an appearance of depth that is suitable for Ginza, and the façade made of stainless steel creates a close relationship with the passersby on the street, with various degree of polishing.
CHIBA MANABU ARCHITECTS has been based in Tokyo and is engaged in the extensive projects such as a government office from a small residential house. Works of Japan Guide Dog Center (2006) and Kogakuin University (2012) had been honored several awards, which recognizes some of the most prestigious awards for Japanese architect. Also, Otaki Town Hall (2012) won the Awards of Merit of 2013 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards.
