Mark Talbot Bob Lamp
Bob Lamp is Silver Design Award winner in 2016 - 2017 Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award Category.
Bob Lamp

The Bob Lamp re-imagines the bold, expressive and garish affectations of postmodernism through the authentic re-investment in ‘real’ materials. Made from hand cast concrete with recycled glass aggregates its weight, size and form allows it to interchange between a small table lamp, heavy enough to withstand an accidental bump and a pendant fixture, light enough to be hung from the ceiling. As a table lamp the wavy base is a series of legs allowing for the cord to pass between, when hung the waves become a crown. The gold half-round bulb does double duty as light source and lampshade.

Talbot & Yoon are architects who incorporate this perspective into smaller scale objects that they design for everyday use. They believe that play is a central element of design culture and want to facilitate play through their design objects. While the products they sell are ‘finished’ when they leave the studio they are never truly completed; character, variation and reconfigurability allow the consumer to experience the same delight from the end product as Talbot & Yoon experienced designing it, participating both physically and emotionally. Talbot & Yoon believe that it if it isn’t fun, why bother? They imagine a world of products that people can take home and play with, products that can grow and change as peoples’ needs and desires grow and change.

Talbot & Yoon, LLC

Talbot & Yoon are a young design firm dedicated to creating beautiful objects, furniture and home accessories. Trained and registered as Architects in the state of New York, founders Mark Talbot and Youngjin Yoon incorporate their architectural thinking into the smaller scale objects that they design for everyday use. Mission Statement: Play is a central element of design culture, so why shouldn’t play be facilitated not just by the designated objects of games but by all design objects? Like kids building a fort using cushions from the couch or turning the rug into a racetrack; through character, variation and reconfigurability we want to provide the adult consumer with the same delight from the end product as we experience in the process of design. Talbot & Yoon believe that it if it isn’t fun, why bother? This is why we promote play as the central driver of our own productivity and maintain that while the products we sell are ‘finished’ when they leave our studio that they are never truly finished; the end user takes over by actively participating with our design objects both physically and emotionally. We imagine a world of products that people can take home and play with, products that can grow and change as peoples’ needs and desires grow and change. All of our products are designed and made by us, one object at a time.
