The design was inspired by a traditional Chinese story named "To Borrow Arrows with Thatched Boats", when two kingdoms were in a war. It was interpreted in the designer's own way, inspiring the designer to create a pair of shoes with two different design but yet consistent and connected. The designer wanted to express the story with the shoes representing a couple in a fight, delivering the story that even in hard times they are inseparable. The design is two physically functional and wearable footwear that were made with non traditional material but with traditional techniques.

Andree Hau Yin Kong has been attached to handbags since the age of four - no matter the circumstances, even when riding her bike, she managed to have a handbag with her at all times. Although she first began her studies in the field of jewelry, being drawn to the preciousness of the materials, she managed to find her way back to her first love - handbags. Through the intricate detailing in her handbags it is clear to see that each thread is sewn with much care and intention. The thought, time and design that is put into each piece is apparent when viewing her work. She feels that it is essential to have a “hand touch” when making and believes the process of creating the piece and the time that goes into it is what makes each piece so exceptional.

Coming from a multicultural background with her mother from Korea and her father from Hong Kong has encouraged her to have an open mind when it comes to inspiration. Her father worked in the textile industry and her mother was a fashionista which exposed her to the design world at a young age. She finds that her inspiration can be anything from friends, family, culture or even a walk down the block. “Wherever it comes from, it takes me to where I need to go and places I didn’t even know I needed to go.” “I always love to work with raw materials. It creates an intimacy between the wearer and the shoes. It is almost as if the shoes are alive.” The influence of the preciousness of jewelry has relayed into her footwear design. Carefully choosing each material relating to its concept is part of a very thought out process for Andree.
