Martina Taranto La Smilza Darwinian chair
La Smilza Darwinian chair is Silver Design Award winner in 2016 - 2017 3D Printed Forms and Products Design Award Category.
La Smilza Darwinian chair

It might seem it has a fragile structure but it is mathematically safe. La Smilza can be considered a spacial reticular structure and it responds to the physical principle of levers. It is composed by broomsticks, 3D printed joints and a suspended seat secured with ropes to the frame. The structure reacts to different strengths depending on how the joints are placed. The chair is designed to be unique, personal, built on the owner's needs and anatomic features. It is transportable, its owner can bring it with him wherever he goes and it will adapt to every situation like a Darwinian creature.

The foundation spreads the Castiglioni’s legacy by running the studio-museum, giving speeches and lectures in many universities all over the world. The foundation purpose is to remember Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, their work and their design method in order to motivate and inspire young designers, teach them how to be responsible, conscious and passionate about their profession by learning from the experience of the Castiglioni brothers.
