The scope of the project was to inject a cultural related theme into the designs. Andrew Carter, the designer, produced a look of action to express contemporary art through the motion of the logo. The different arrangements of the logo creates a sense of motion that cause the eye to move over the work. What inspired the artist was a reading about a technique which captures movement in several frames. Andrew also took inconsideration that the rate of new typefaces being produced nowadays is simply staggering, so a detailed research had to be done.

Andrew is a 22 year old designer based in Malta. He has a MA degree in Art & Design. His work is most often type and conceptual based. He loves everything that has to do with design and he has a true love for type. His interest in design began from a very young age and he started to inspire himself from others work. He is a very keen person and always try different styles so not to limit himself.

"Valletta was declared European Capital of Culture (ECoC) on the 12th October 2012. The Valletta 2018 Foundation was responsible for compiling the bid for Valletta as an ECoC and is in charge of implementing the project. Valletta will be hosting the title of European Capital of Culture in 2018 with a partner Dutch city, Leeuwarden. The ECoC includes all the Maltese Islands, with an aim to spread its impact throughout the whole Maltese territory."
