The Berlin company aceteam created the first wooden e-bike, the task was to build it in an environmental friendly way. The search for a competent cooperation partner was successful with the Faculty of Wood Science and Technology of the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development. The idea of Matthias Broda became reality, combining CNC technology and the knowledge of wood material, the wooden E-Bike was born.
I started as a student in the Company museumstechnik Berlin, I was responsible for exibitions in Berlin, Martin Gropius Bau during the 80th . During that time we created a constuction system for exibitions, for roofs, stairways and heavy weight structure. In knowledge of this experience we created from that structure a modular shelf system, called system 180, www.system180.com,was born, I was the director of this company from the start (1 employee just me) to 2012, 70 employees), that was the time as a started with aceteam to create a new vision of mobility
Science meets Sustainability The Berlin Company aceteam develops the first wooden electricbike The “Wooden EBike” is an ambitious project by Matthias Broda, founder and CEO of aceteam Berlin. Brodas goal was to create an electrical bicycle and build it in an environmental friendly way. In cooperation with the Faculty of Wood Science and Technology of the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) the idea became reality. Combining state of the art CNCtechnology and the full knowledge of wood material, the first wooden EBike was developed and is now ready for production. Wood is not only a natural material but it also binds CO2 while metal production requires an eight times higher energy input leading to increased CO2 emissions. Thus, the Wooden EBike has a significantly lower carbonfootprint in comparison to standard bicycles. The wooden fork and the characteristic frame remind you of the form of an eye giving the Wooden EBike an unmistakable and distinctive appearance. The electrical components are invisibly integrated in the frame and in this way protected against any bad weather condition. Efficient lightweight construction makes the Wooden EBike competitive with standard Pedelecs. The 17 kg light bike is made of laminated ash wood. Ash wood is especially qualified for the bike frame constructions due to its outstanding performance under torsion, impact, and other stresses applied during cycling. Both frame and fork function not only perfectly as their main purpose but as housing for the new electrical parts of the Wooden EBike. The 250 Watt motor supports the cyclist to a maximum speed of 25 km/h over a distance of approximately 60 kilometer. Besides ecological reasons, a production with CNC machinery is the most cost efficient way of production guaranteeing repeatability unlike manufacturing. This suits the purpose of a small mass production and can be still customized to meet individual demands. As a unique feature the price will be similar to an upperclass conventional bike and therefor affordable for a majority of customers. With the beginning of 2015, the first Wooden EBike prototype was completed and gained recognition from the audience. Among others, it was priced for its innovation with Green Product Award 2015 and priced for its innovation with Green Buddy Award 2014. In 2015 the Wooden EBike will be introduced to the market by aceteam Berlin. Potential owners are design affine city slickers with an environmental awareness – an everexpanding target group.
