A minimal approach to your household shelf where all the components fit into a single rectangular plank structure. When de frames are assembled the shelf has an inconsistent composition creating an interesting play of graphical lines. The grid is made up of 10 metal frames that can serve as a free standing bookcase or as a room divider. The ‘boards’ have different widths and are open in the middle, allowing them to be suitable for flat objects as well as hangable items.
GERARD DE HOOP is a designer and interior architect. Graduated at the Art Academy Minerva (Interior Design & Architectural Design) Groningen (NL). His work consists of a constant search for innovation and resourcefulness in the field of functional products. His ambition is to make unique designs that carry the elements simplicity, surprise and versatility in them. Simplicity is mainly brought about by the use of basic geometric shapes. He always explores the boundaries of what is possible and he is always looking for a certain tension. This element of surprise, that special effect is what he is aiming for. A number of his furniture designs have been incorporated in the collections of design labels. Others are released independently or are still prototypes.
